Phil Noy – Alto Sax
Sam Anning – Bass
Allan Browne – Drums
Julien Wilson (tenor saxophone) and ex-Brisbanite/Tasmanian Phil Noy (alto saxophone) put this group together in 2010 to explore the cannon of the ‘cool’ East Coast school of legendary pianist/composer Lennie Tristano, and more specifically the great – but overlooked – legacy of the two saxophone chemistry in the combination of Lee Konitz and the late Warne Marsh. They have since expanded their outlook to incorporate tunes by Ornette Coleman and songs from the standard repertoire. The dynamic rhythm section comprises acoustic bassist Sam Anning and drummer Allan Browne. They have performed at Wangaratta Jazz Festival and recorded live for ABC Classic FM.
A track from that recording was released on Jazztrack’s 40th Anniversary compilation album
